In high school I read the poetry of Charles Bukowski in Love is a Dog From Hell over and over, absorbing how modern it all was, and how he spoke a very frank truth in direct prose. While my own poetry tends to rhyme ala Shel Silverstein (my greatest influence), sometimes when it doesn’t it gives you more of a kick in the gut. I love the quote I chose as it clarifies so succinctly the idea of having a positive perspective that I strive for every day.
